OVERVIEW

This course proposes to develop the basic knowledge in statistical physics.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching aims to deepen the study of Statistical Physics of near-equilibrium systems. Some interesting topics such as Onsager relations, thermoelectric phenomena, kinetic theory of gases, and hydrodynamics of simple fluids will be addressed.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Educational objectives are related to the problems of statistical physics of out-of-

equilibrium systems.

We will start with Callen's thermodynamics. The distinction will then be discussed

between slightly out-of-equilibrium systems, with Onsager's fundamental rules (symmetry

of the kinetic coefficients).

At this juncture we will study some fundamental problems: the Seebeck effect, the Peltier effect

Later Brownian motion, Boltzmann equation, linear response theory and

hydrodynamic problems

The aim of this course is to make students capable of tackling non-trivial problems in

Statistical Physics.
