AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Acquisition of basic theoretical knowledge and technical references for the design and experimental verification of digital and analog electronic circuits. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES To provide basic skills on the main electronic components (analog and digital) and on the tools for analyzing and designing simple electronic circuits. To introduce the fundamental power electronic components and their related control circuitry. PREREQUISITES Circuit analysis TEACHING METHODS Lectures and laboratory activities. In the lab, students, divided into groups, will practice with electronic instrumentation for the characterization of diodes and transistors and will have the opportunity to build simple circuits with operational amplifiers and logic circuits. Students having disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders can request suitable aids for the examinations. Such aids will be defined according to specific needs, together with the Referent for the Polytechnic School of the Committe for the inclusion of Students with Disabilites and with SLD. Students in such conditions are invited to get in touch (via e-mail) with the Teacher a sufficient time before the examination, inserting in copy the Referent for the Polytechninc School (https://unige.it/en/commissioni/comitatoperlinclusionedeglistudenticondisabilita.html), without sending any document about their disabilites. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Introduction to semiconductor physics Structure and operation of electronic components: diodes, bipolar transistors, field-effect transistors Circuit analysis techniques in static and dynamic conditions Single-transistor amplifiers and related applications Operational amplifiers and related applications Structure and operation of digital circuits in CMOS technology (logic gates and flip-flops) Main power components: diodes, controlled diodes, power MOSFETs, and IGBTs RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Microelectronic circuit design - Richard C.
