AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The module will focus on the system of International, European and Italian environmental Laws and Regulations, also from a comparative law perspective, as well as it aims to provide an introduction to some of the key issues of territorial management in those Law and Regulation. First of all the module is underpinned by the main principles in environmental matter (such as prevention, precaution, best environmental protection and sustainable development). Secondly the module deals with the governance of risk (particularly in respect of natural hazard, various kinds of pollution and emerging technologies), providing students with an understanding of how the law seeks to regulate pollution control, conservation of the built and natural environment, and risk assessment and management, in particular through environmental authorisations and public planning policies. Finally the module aims to deepen the consequent liabilities and responsibilities, in particular of public powers or technicians, according to Laws and Jurisprudence. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of 40 hours of classes. Teaching will be based on the study of relevant case-law and documents, and implies an informed participation by the students. Students with learning disorders ("disturbi specifici di apprendimento", DSA) will be allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities. ASSESSMENT METHODS The oral exam consists of at least two questions on the topics covered by the program of the course. The written exam consist of open-ended questions and/or multiple choices questions on the topics discussed during class. Students who have valid certification of disability or Specific Learning Desorders (DSA) on file with the University may request the use of compensatory measures during the exams (e.g. additional time, concept maps, modifications in the written/oral mode), following the guidelines (p. 5) published here.
