OVERVIEW

The Tourism Statistics course aims to explore simple statistical tools for analyzing data in the tourism sector. You will learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret data to understand the characteristics and trends in the tourism industry

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide basic knowledge of the main statistical tools for the collection and analysis of tourism data and of the main sources of statistical information about tourism.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students will:

  • Know the main tools for summarizing and presenting data through the acquisition of key descriptive statistics tools.
  • Be familiar with the primary sources of tourism data.
  • Be able to choose appropriate techniques based on the type of data to be analyzed.
  • Be capable of performing basic descriptive analyses for univariate and bivariate phenomena using the main summary indices.
  • Be able to find information on tourism phenomena by searching the main databases.

  • Distribution of a variable and its representation: frequency distributions, charts
  • Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode, and percentiles
  • Measures of variability
  • Index numbers
  • Measures of association and correlation

TOURISM STATISTICS

  • Definition of a tourist
  • The main sources of tourism data
  • Statistics on tourism supply
  • Types and classifications of tourism supply
  • Key indicators of accommodation utilization
  • Statistics on tourism demand
