Epidemiology and the prevention of infectious diseases and not in relation to the living and working environment (housing hygiene, school hygiene, hospital hygiene, etc), the social environment and lifestyle. Hygiene of food and nutrition. Health organization and planning. Medicine in the community. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course focuses on acquiring specific knowledge and skills in the field of hygiene applied to "indoor" and "outdoor" environments, workplaces, food hygiene and nutrition, community medicine, preventive, rehabilitative and social medicine, epidemiology, public health, health management, risk management, planning, organization, management and health assessment, health promotion and health education. TEACHING METHODS Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes. SYLLABUS/CONTENT - Knowledge of the main reservoirs and sources of infection - Host / parasite reports; - Notification, contingency measures, diagnostic assessment; - Sterilization, disinfection, sanification and disinfestation; - Active and passive immunoprophylaxis. Types of vaccines. Vaccine prevention strategies. The vaccination calendar; - Chemioprophylaxis of infectious diseases; - Epidemiology and prevention of transmission pathways, with particular reference to papillomavirus infection as an etiologic agent of uterine cervical cancer - Epidemiology and prevention of nosocomial diseases, diseases of the international traveler and migrants, chronic degenerative diseases, atherosclerosis and coronary ischemic heart disease, malignant tumors, the most frequent degenerative and metabolic diseases; - Prevention based on efficacy testing, evaluation of effectiveness of prevention interventions; - Methodologies for the programming, implementation and evaluation of health education interventions; - Epidemiology and prevention of domestic and road accidents; - Natural disasters and emergencies including Bioterrorism; - Health and environmental effects caused by pollution, environmental monitoring and risk assessment; - Epidemiology and prevention of health damage caused by the major atmospheric pollutants; - Biological, physical and chemical risk factors in confined environments; - Water intended for human consumption: knowledge, assessment and prevention of health risks; - Health risks deriving from the alienation and disposal of refluents and waste from urban centers and industrial activities; - Identification and evaluation of exposure and risk in working environments to biological, physical and chemical factors; - Prevention of health damages associated with the working environment; - Work hygiene: functions of the competent doctor and of the prevention and protection service; - Foods as a vehicle for pathogenic and / or toxic agents: infections, toxins, intoxications; - Food safety. Physical, chemical and microbiological control methods: adulteration, sophistication, counterfeiting; food additives; - Methods of remediation and methods of preservation of food; - Nutrition hygiene; - Epidemiology and alcoholism prevention; - Epidemiology and prevention of major and minor toxic-dependencies; - Epidemiology and tobacco prevention; - Identifying the relationships between need, demand and supply; - Identification of the provision of services for the overall protection of the health of individuals, families and communities; - Creation of integrated, unitary, welfare plans; - Forwarding of appropriate questions of health and social services; - Activating the participation of individuals, families and communities in the protection of health; - Basics of listening, interview and help: from counseling to patient education; - Evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions in primary care: application of the indications deriving from EBM; - Identifying the methodological and practical problems that pertain to the need for evidence of effectiveness in preventive practice; - Opening up to multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary work for objective projects; - Identification of methodologies for hospital-territory integration and for the real use of the network of district services; - Evaluation of the results and outcomes of the assistance; - The Charter of Services as a pact between companies and citizens; - Hospital organization and local welfare services. Public and private health; - Organization of home care in protected residences and other care for elderly patients - General organization and relations with the health services of the specific services for the recovery of the drug addicts, of the marginalized, of the social misfits; - Business operating mechanisms: planning, management systems; corporate information systems; - Design and dissemination of projects to improve quality in health services: from diagnosis to assessment; - Evaluating the quality of public and private health services: accreditation and certification. Looking at international experiences in this area. Appropriate use of sanitary services ; - The hospital discharge card (SDO).
