OVERVIEW

Within the integrated teaching course of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, the specific part concerning pulmonology will cover the clinical and scientific aspects of the more frequent respiratory diseases, this including the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowledge: pathopysiological and clinical bases of the main respiratory diseases.

Practical: clinical examination and basic diagnostic maneuvers (e.g. spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis, saturimetry, venipuncture, skin prick test, interpretation of chest X ray and CT scan)

TEACHING METHODS

Lessons: 14 hrs

Practical teaching: 2 wks

Seminars: 8 hrs      

Case discussion: 10 hrs

Attendance: mandatory

 

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

Oral exam

Direct feedback/assessment during clinical practice training

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The evaluation of the skills in the specific matter of teaching will be evaluated with the oral final exam. A minimum of 18/30 is required to be certified.

The candidate should be able to describe the essentials of the main respiratory diseases and of the basic diagnostic procedures (SEE SECTION 2).

Those latter aspects will be directly verified during the clinical practice training. These include:

Knowledge: pathopysiological and clinical bases of the main respiratory diseases.

Practical: clinical examination and basic diagnostic maneuvers (e.g. spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis, saturimetry, venipuncture, skin prick test, interpretation of chest X ray and CT scan).

It is required, for the final exam, that the student is able to discuss properly (also in term of medical language) his/her competence both in description and in practice.
