OVERVIEW

Hematology course will provide the cellular and molecular bases to understand the development of modern therapeutic strategies for hematological disorders. In particular, special emphasis will be placed on “target therapy” that is the strategy of  targeting the molecular mechanisms of the diseases

 To understand the main molecular mechanisms underlying the development of neoplastic diseases to interpret correctly “targeted therapy” approach.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

To be able to perform a proper clinical approach to plan the proper therapy for a single patient.

TEACHING METHODS

Hematology course will include hematology classes (=14 hours) which will be delivered in presence.Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

Therapy of mieloproliferative disorders

-Therapy of  acute leukemias

-Therapy of lymphomas

-Therapy of chronic lymphocitic leukemia

-Therapy of Multiple myeloma

-Therapy of emorragic and thrombotic disorders

-Principles of blood transfusion

EXAMS

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Student must stand a final examination which is related to the entire I.C., and includes all the disciplines - to verify the achievement of required learning outcomes. The final mark  is expressed in fractions of 30.To pass final exam students have to answer correctly at least enough questions to totalize18 points. Multiple choice questions will be based on all the topics of the course and will be designed to test the level of knowledge and  ability of in-depth clinical analysis and skills developed by the student.
