CODE 67579 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 1 cfu anno 6 MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA 8745 (LM-41) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/49 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: MEDICAL THERAPY APPLIED AND PALLIATIVE THERAPY TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW Clinical nutrition and the role of nutrition in the treatment medical and surgical disorders AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student must be able to: - Know the nutritional needs of the healthy person and of the sick individual -Evaluate the state of nutrition and diagnose malnutrition by defect or excess -Program a nutritional support and know the indications and contraindications of a complete enteral or parenteral feeding - Knowing when medical and / or surgical therapy should be combined with adequate diet therapy and what type of diet should be prescribed - Knowing the differences between the professional figures of preventive and clinical nutrition in Italy in order to create a correct sinergy with MD. - Knowing how to treat obesity - Knowing how to stratify the patient's cardiovascular risk - Know how to treat hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia with adequate diet and oral medications available. Know the use of statins, ezetimibe and fibrates and the indications of new PCSK-9 inhibitors, and ATP-citrate-liasis inhibitor TEACHING METHODS TEACHING in presence, frontal lessons, attendance is compulsory ON-LINE TEACHING in SYNCHRONOUS mode in the event of a pandemic emergency Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes. The test consists of a multiple choice quiz series. The quizzes can be represented by short clinical cases or by clinical situations. 4 possible choice options are listed, of which only 1 is correct. In the event of a pandemic emergency, the exam will be carried out online on the Teams platform. Multiple choice or open-ended questions may be asked ASSESSMENT METHODS Verification of learning takes place only through the final exam which aims to ascertain the actual acquisition by the student of the all expected learning outcomes. The final grade is out of thirty and the exam is passed if the student has answered exactly a number of quizzes such as to score at least 18 points. The multiple choice quizzes will cover all the topics covered in class and are prepared to assess the level of knowledge and ascertain the depth of clinical analysis and reasoning skills developed by the student.
