OVERVIEW

The Integrated Teaching of Medicine II is divided into 3 modules: Internal Medicine, Medical Genetics and Geriatrics. The purpose of this teaching is the acquisition of notions and decision-making skills that allow on the basis of the clinic to plan a correct diagnostic and therapeutic process of the main acute and chronic diseases of medical interest internist.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is aimed at the acquisition of knowledge and decision-making skills on the subject of diagnostic interpretation and treatment setting of the main diseases of medical interest in adults and the elderly. It is based on the application of guidelines and, in general, on evidence-based medicine, on the evaluation of costs and benefits of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, on the interpretation of complex clinical cases and on the clinical management of patients with polypathologies. The issue of rare diseases and genetic predisposition to the development of adult diseases are also addressed.

 

TEACHING METHODS

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The teachings of genetics and geriatrics envisaged in the integrated course include a written test (quiz) described in detail in each relative file (Genetics and Geriatrics).

After passing the 2 tests, you will be able to access the oral exam of medicine II.

The oral exam includes the discussion of clinical cases in which the student will have to demonstrate the ability to synthesize diagnostics

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The Student will have to demonstrate that he / she has the knowledge and skills indicated in the Learning Objectives, with a mark of at least 18/30.

The following final marks are expressed out of thirty: 1) Ability to deal transversally and critically with the topics requested, 2) Correctness, clarity, synthesis and fluency of the exhibition, 3) Adoption of appropriate terminology.
