OVERVIEW

The professionalizing internship in the medical and surgical departments takes place over the period from the 4th to the 6th year of the course.

The student participates in the clinical activity of the department, the outpatient clinic and in the surgical area UOs, if permitted, he/she will be able to access the operating room sessions to view the surgical techniques.

He/she participates in the discussion of clinical cases, in the diagnostic and differential diagnosis procedure, in the therapeutic address and in the planning of the patient's follow-up.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Internship includes exclusively practical professionalizing care activities, based on attendance in small groups of medical and surgical departments. It is aimed at promoting the creation of a progressive decision-making autonomy and the application of diagnostic and therapeutic paths learned in previous courses. The final evaluation is based on the verification in a clinical and/or simulated environment of the professionalizing "skills" acquired during the studies.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the internship, the student will be able to address the discussion on problems of clinical relevance in the medical and surgical area, showing himself capable of setting up differential diagnostic reasoning, based on observation, knowledge of epidemiological data, rational use of instrumental and laboratory investigations, and possibilities for prevention of the most common pathologies. He will have developed the ability to make correct therapeutic indications, including the most common surgical ones, on the prognosis, taking into account the psychophysical and social characteristics of the patient. In short, he will have to achieve the required medical and surgical skills.
