The Practical-Evaluative Internship (TPVES) is aimed at ascertaining the student's abilities relating to "knowing how to do and knowing how to be a doctor", which consists in applying biomedical and clinical knowledge to medical practice, in resolving questions of professional ethics and medical ethics, in demonstrating the aptitude for solving clinical problems pertaining to the areas of medicine and surgery and related specialties, laboratory and instrumental diagnostics and public health.
Students enrolled starting from the 5th year can access the medical-surgical practical-evaluative internship, provided that they have passed all the exams relating to the first 4 years of the course, including any suitability tests; the request can be made upon reaching the requirements at any time of the year by uploading the start application (Annex 1 to this regulation) and the self-certification of exams taken on Aulaweb in time for the start of the internship. Subsequently, students in possession of the requirements will be authorized to download the booklet from Aulaweb Students, starting from the 6th year of the course and provided that they have passed all the exams relating to the first 4 years of the course, including any suitability tests, will be able to attend the scheduled month of internship at the office of a GP, freely chosen from those included in a special list periodically provided by the Regional Order of Surgeons, only after contacting him to agree on the period of attendance and having obtained formal consent.
The practical-evaluative internship provides for attendance for a number of hours corresponding to 5 CFU for each month provided for by the Ministerial Decree and is divided into the following periods, which may not be consecutive: • 1 month in the Surgical Area • 1 month in the Medical Area • 1 month at the office of a general practitioner The medical and surgical practical-evaluative internship takes place at the University and Hospital Units of the S. Martino Polyclinic, and at Units in the Ligurian territory, specifically identified on the basis of Agreements stipulated with the structures of the National Health Service. The month of attendance in the field of General Medicine takes place at the office of a general practitioner on the basis of agreements stipulated between the University and the Provincial Order of Physicians and Surgeons competent for the territory, which periodically prepares specific lists of Doctors who possess the necessary requirements.
Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.
The TPVES, pursuant to art. 3 of Ministerial Decree 58/2018, provides for attendance, during the 5th and 6th year of the course, and in any case before graduation, of an internship lasting a total of three months.

There is no formal exam, but only the registration of attendance.
The certification of attendance and the evaluation of the skills demonstrated by the trainee are carried out by and under the responsibility of the university professor or the medical director responsible for the facility attended by the trainee, and of the general practitioner. The traineeship is passed only in the event of obtaining a judgment of suitability issued by those responsible for each of the three periods.
