The course is very practical and the objectives include the acquisition of skills in the use of simulation softwares. During the course, safe and security issues in logistic and transportation systems are also addressed with particular reference to the transport of dangerous goods. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student will be able to develop and use simulation models of complex logistic systems and to test innovative solutions to make the transport of goods smarter and safer. The student will also be able to discuss the theoretical aspects of discrete event simulation, including the input data analysis and the output data analysis. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course the student will have acquired a set of notions for the analysis and management of smart and automated logistic and transport systems. During the course the student acquires - live during the lesson - significant skills in the use of simulation softwares and other software tools. PREREQUISITES No specific prerequisite is required. TEACHING METHODS The course takes place in a classroom or in the transportation systems engineering lab. During the lessons, the professor shows slides (which are made available to the students through Aulaweb, before the lesson) on the various topics of the course and shows how to build simulation and optimization models for logistics systems (with softwares that can be used at the same time also by the students). SYLLABUS/CONTENT Introduction to discrete-event simulation Toll gate / Port gate Theoretical aspects of discrete-event simulation Creation of input data and analysis of output data Simulation models for logistics and transportation Intermodal port terminal Yard management Management of freights and dangerous goods within tunnels TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD DAVIDE GIGLIO Ricevimento: The professor receives by appointment (write an email to fix the appointment). Students with learning disorders ("Disturbi Specifici di Apprendimento", DSA) will be allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities. ASSESSMENT METHODS The students are required to carry out a project that consists of creating a simulation model with Extendsim software, defining the input data, and analyzing the output The topic of the simulation model will be provided at the end of November The project must be completed before the oral discussion. During the exam (oral discussion), the students discuss the model they have created, explain which input data they have considered, and show the performance analysis they have performed During the oral exam, the student may be asked to make some changes to the model Exam schedule Data appello Orario Luogo Degree type Note 09/01/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 30/01/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 13/02/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 03/06/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 19/06/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 10/07/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 11/09/2025 08:30 GENOVA Scritto + Orale FURTHER INFORMATION It is mandatory to register for the exam through the online services at least 5 days in advance (deadline established by the University of Genoa).
