The correct sustainable management of the coastal and offshore marine environment requires the use of monitoring and data management tools referring to the current environmental legislation aimed at the exercise of the activity of supervision, control and management (international conventions and protocols, European,national and local directives). The course, divided into two modules, therefore introduces the student to environmental legislation, environmental investigation strategies and methodologies for analyzing ecosystem characteristics. These concepts have been mentioned in previous courses of an ecological nature and in the present teaching they find a broader study also with the aid of laboratory activities
