AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the teaching is to provide a basic knowledge of morphology, crystal structure, investigation methods in X-ray crystallography, and crystal chemistry of the minerals. On the basis of these aspects a classification and description of the main minerals, primarily rock forming minerals, is supplied together with their chemical and physical properties, focusing the optical ones. The macro and microscopic observations of mineral properties are described and a method of systematic optical study of transparent crystals is showed using polarized transmitted light microscopy.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

To provide the basic conceptual tools on the crystalline state which characterizes minerals, in order to understand

the structure and physical and chemical properties;

- To describe the physical properties and the most significant phenomena and transformations that affect the

TEACHING METHODS

"Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Sara Ferrando (sara.ferrando@unige.it), the Department’s disability liaison.”
