OVERVIEW

The present teaching course is mainly aimed to provide students with the appropriate knowledge and basic skills about psychiatric sciences.  

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide appropriate training on the patient-to-patient relationship; To have a good knowledge of the psychological and psychopathological, etiopathogenetic, diagnostic, clinical and prognostic aspects of psychiatric illnesses of youth, adulthood and senility, personality disorders and drug-toxic dependencies, to have knowledge of the theoretical bases and techniques of the various Forms of individual, family, and group psychotherapy, and acquire professional tools even in emergency-emergency situations

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide basic knowledge relating to the main psychiatric disorders with the aim of making general concepts of a clinical, psychopathological and diagnostic nature accessible. The course also aims to provide the student with useful elements for the recognition of the main psychopathological frameworks of interest and for the identification of the most relevant psychiatric disorders.

At the end of the training course, the student will be able to orient himself on the clinical and diagnostic paths aimed at recognizing the main psychiatric disorders, analyzing their psychopathological components as well as outlining the nosographic criteria with regards to the skills developed.

The student will finally have acquired the ability to present their scientific knowledge with appropriate language and to develop independent study and critical reflective skills.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures with presentation of clinical cases.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Psychopathology of the main psychic functions, mood disorders and suicidal behavior, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, disorders related to traumatic events, obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, eating disorders and personality disorders.

Power point material will also be provided to further integrate the contents of the textbook and lessons.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is carried out orally. The exam is graded out of thirty and passing the exam is subject to obtaining a score of at least 18/30. Weighted average with the other modules of the integrated teaching/course.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam is developed with the aim of evaluating the learning of basic knowledge relating to the psychopathology of the main psychiatric disorders.

The exam will have the objective of ascertaining that the expected learning outcomes have been achieved through a critical evaluation of the knowledge acquired as well as through the candidate's ability to formulate possible solutions relating to specific psychopathological/psychiatric questions.
