OVERVIEW

Even the least invasive foot surgery always retains risks for patient's health because of local anestesia or due to the possibility to delevop microbial or fungal infections. Among professional skills of podiatrist, the masterhood of basic life support procedures, along with the knowlwdge of the risks related with anestetic prodedures and pharmacologic treatments, represent necessary abilities. 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is aimed to teach the features of most common drugs  (antibiotics, analgesics, anestetics, antinflammatory, anticoagulants, antimicotics) and their indications. Illustrate the principle and techniques of topical, nerve-block and regional anehstesia, and the side effects of anestetic drugs. learning of therapy of pain guidelines (pharmacotherapy, agopuncture, etc.).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course of anestesiology, BLS and pharmacology is aimed to form qualified personnel in the field of foot pathology that have the cabability to face patient's life-threatening events that can occur as consequence of surgery- related pharmacotrtherapy. Moreover, the course aims to prepare qualified podiatrist that can coadiuvate physicians in patient's follow up.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is composed by a practical exercitation of BLS, followed by a written test of anestesiology and a talk about pharmacology.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam aims to evaluate student's capability to deal with emergency situations, to know procedures of local or loco-regional anestesia and the therapeutic potential and the toxicity of drugs that are employed to treat foot-related affections.
