CODE 67353 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 1 cfu anno 2 PODOLOGIA 9284 (L/SNT2) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/05 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: MEDICAL SCIENCE I TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The teaching of clinical pathology aims to provide the basic tools for the interpretation of some classes of laboratory disease markers AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The fundamental training objective is the identification of the characteristics of the diagnostic tests that allow their evaluation. Ancillary objective: to present some classes of disease markers. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Knowing the concepts of general clinical pathology (accuracy and precision, sensitivity and diagnostic specificity, sensitivity and methodological specificity, positive and negative predictive value, normal range, decision levels). Knowing the main analysis tests concerning inflammatory pathologies, cell damage and neoplasms, with their main uses and meanings. PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge of anatomy, histology, biochemistry, physiology TEACHING METHODS The lessons are held in a frontal way with every possible interaction with the students. In consideration of the health situation in our country, the lessons can be delivered online, possibly via live streaming. Students with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes. SYLLABUS/CONTENT General clinical pathology: concepts of accuracy and precision, sensitivity and diagnostic specificity, sensitivity and methodological specificity, positive and negative predictive value, normal range, decision levels. Special clinical pathology: markers of inflammation (acute phase proteins and leukocytosis); tissue damage markers; tumor markers. In consideration of the health conditions of our country, the test could be administered online live, or replaced by oral evaluation. During the exam, the rules regarding the assessment method of DSA certified students or other educational needs indicated by the university will be respected. In this specific case, additional time will be granted. ASSESSMENT METHODS An average of 8 questions will be proposed. At least four different answers will be suggested for each question. The answer to choose must be the most complete and the best of the suggested answers. The teacher reserves the right to partially evaluate non-optimal answers, but concentrically correct, even if incomplete. At least 3 answers must be correct for the exam to be considered passed In consideration of the health conditions of our country, the test could be administered online live, or replaced by oral evaluation.
