The teaching of general pharmacology is composed by two sections. The first is aimed to introduce students into the basic knowledge of the interaction between drugs and human body and its therapeutical outcomes. In particular, the teaching will focus on the capacity of the body to react to the treatment, inducing the metabolism and, ultimately the elimination of the drug. On the other hand the drug induce a physiological or structural in the body that can favor the mitigation of potentially severe symptoms of a pathology, thus helping the healing.
In details, the following objectives will be pursued by the teaching.
-The pharmacokinetics behavior of drugs (how is absorbed, distributed, metabolized and eliminated by the body)
-The pharmacodynamic of drugs (their mechanisms of action)
-Their clinical significance (indications, contraindications, tolerance, intolerance and side effects)
The second part of the course is aimed to describe some pharmacological strategies that still represents first choice procedures in clinical emergencies; among these particular relevance will be given to the pharmacological modulation of autonomic nerve system and the control of inflammation and allergy by non steroidal antinflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids.
Teaching of general pharmacology wil be held as front lessons. Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.
General pharmacology: Introduction to pharmacological and clinical characteristics of drugs
Pharmacokinetic: absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs

Lessons will start on march
The exam will be performed in form of a talk
Students will be asked to reckon the interaction between drugs and the human body and the physiological modifications that can be produced. The ability to discuss of the subjective and objective variable that can interfere with the therapeutic acticvity of drugs will be regarded as a plus in the evaluation on the exam
To pass the course of patologia generale e tossicologia, students must pass all the sections that compose it whithin the same semester.
