CODE 83886 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 1 ARCHITETTURA 9915 (LM-4) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/11 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The teaching illustrates the fundamentals of the physical behavior of buildings as well as the main technological systems that are adopted in a building to achieve comfort conditions and energy efficiency. The main aim is to allow students to achieve awareness of the importance of the harmonic integration between architectural and technical aspects. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching's objectives refer to the fundamental aspects characterizing the physical behavior of buildings and the main technological systems that are adopted in a building to achieve conditions of comfort and energy efficiency. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the teaching, students must: know the thermo-physical behavior of buildings; be able to describe the main quantities that can produce the thermo-hygrometric comfort conditions; understand the main characteristics of the fundamental kinds of technical systems; be able to perform a first evaluation of the performance of the systems and their components; solve simple problems of system’s sizing; discuss the best system’s choice according to the existing design constraints. PREREQUISITES Students have to know properly and deeply the main topics and means given by the teachings of Applied Physics and Mathematics. TEACHING METHODS The teaching consists of both theoretical lectures and applied lessons. The first ones introduce the main topics, the latter deepen the knowledge and give examples of applications. In order to help students familiarize with the real systems, a guided visit to a building plant is foreseen as well as a lecture given on a specific topic by a recognize professional. Attendance to the lessons is not mandatory but is highly recommended to maximize the teaching impact and to ease the students’ learning. Students who have a valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the teacher and with the Department of Architecture and Design's disability referent (https://architettura.unige.it/commissioni_e_referenti_dipartimento). SYLLABUS/CONTENT The main systems that are found in a building will be illustrated, with particular reference to those meant to achieve thermo-hygrometric comfort conditions with high energy efficiency. In detail, the following systems will be introduced: Air conditioning system, Water heating system, Mixed systems, System components, Heat pumps, Solar collectors, Photovoltaic panels, Hydro-sanitary system, Electrical system. Numerical exercises will be carried out on some theoretical topics. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Students can study on the handouts written by the Teacher, which can be donwloaded through the AulaWeb platform. For self-study and in-depth study of specific topics, the following texts are recommended: •Rossi N., Manuale del termotecnico, Hoepli, 2014. •Bergero S., Chiari A., Appunti di termoigrometria e impianti, Aracne Editrice, 2015. •Magrini A., Magnani L., La progettazione degli impianti di climatizzazione negli edifici, EPC LIBRI, 2010. •Pianese A., Impianti tecnici in edilizia, Dario Flaccovio Editore, 2009. •Moncada Lo Giudice G., De Santoli L., Progettazione di impianti tecnici, Masson, 1995. •Bettanini E., Brunello P.F., Lezioni di impianti tecnici, Vol. I e II, Cluep Editore, 1990. •Quinterio A., Progettazione impiantistica, Maggioli Editore, 2011. •Spiga M., Efficienza energetica e termofisica dell’edificio, Società Editrice Esculapio, 2018. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD STEFANO LAZZARI Ricevimento: Student office hours typically take place on Wednesday mornings, from 11:00 to 12:00, or at the end of individual lessons. Students must schedule appointments for office hours via email. Appointments can also be arranged for different times/days and conducted through the Microsoft Teams platform. The written test lasts one hour and a quarter and consists of an open question and an exercise, which can be on theoretical and/or applicative topics. The test is meant to check if the student has/has not reached a minimum level of knowledge on the main topics. If the outcome of the written test is sufficient, the student is admitted to the oral test, which is also on both theoretical and applicative topics. The oral exam is meant to evaluate to which extent the student is able to analyze, describe and discuss the teaching’s topics. If the oral test is not sufficient, the exam is not passed and the written test must be repeated. Booking to the exam session is via the Unige portal. To take the exam, it is necessary that the student has completed the online registration and brings his/her identification document. Students who are not registered cannot take the exam. Exam registrations close at 24:00 on the Saturday preceding the Tuesday exam session. For fairness and to avoid negative impact on the organization of the session, registered students who no longer intend to take the exam must remove themselves from the list by the same deadline mentioned above. Unexcused absences will prevent participation in the next exam session. ASSESSMENT METHODS The written test evaluates the successful comprehension of the different topics of the course and the consequent ability to apply the concepts acquired to the solution of some simple problems. The oral test allows to investigate with more accuracy the student's level of knowledge of the theoretical and applicative themes as well as his ability in performing critical reasoning. In the oral examination, attention is also paid to the clarity of the exposition and to the mastery of specific technical language. FURTHER INFORMATION To join the exam, the Student must show the University ID and/or other identity document. During the written test students are allowed to use only a black or blue ballpoint pen, the necessary to erase, a ruler, the calculator. Any needed table / diagram will be supplied within the written test. The usage of handnotes, forms or sheetsother than those provided is forbidden (exception is made for DSA students). All the news concerning the teaching (e.g., advices, recommendations, changes to the office hours for students, evaluations of the written tests, etc.) are always posted on the Aulaweb webpage. Students are advised to update their e-mail address provided by the University with the address of a frequently-checked inbox, so as to receive any urgent notices communicated by the teacher.
