CODE 83882 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 8 cfu anno 1 ARCHITETTURA 9915 (LM-4) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/21 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION IN THE PROJECT OF THE CITY AND TERRITORY TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The architect is recognized as having professional competence in the field of planning and governance of the territory. This expertise applies both to defining land uses and methods of implementation of interventions (drawing up plans), and to formulating scenarios and development strategies compatible with resources and congruent with the potential of the territories (developing programs and projects by discussing with the communities concerned and with other specialists). Both these aspects are considered in this module, with theoretical lessons and through participation in the exercise common to alle the modules, which simulates a design process with urban and territorial value in its different phases and components. On the basis of the notions learned in the three-year course of architecture and the in-depth studies and knowledge provided in the course of the course, the student will be guided to refine his/her skills to critically observe the territory, carry out surveys and apply analysis tools, conceive and develop proposals for redevelopment in a perspective of appropriateness, concreteness and sustainability of the interventions. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: • autonomously set up the study of a territory; • identify the essential components of a territory through surveys and direct experience; • develop proposals for intervention consistent with the characteristics of the territory; • validate and argue the proposals on the basis of the knowledge of the territory acquired; • illustrate a project proposal even to a non-expert audience. TEACHING METHODS The module is divided into theoretical lectures and an exercise in which the other disciplines are also involved. The criterion of "learning by doing", which underlies the entire degree course, is pursued by refining skills and applying new knowledge and tools during the exercise carried out by the students, preferably in groups of 2-3 members. Educational activities include: • ex cathedra lectures, in which the teacher deals with general issues of urban planning, considers local applications, provides theoretical references and operational tools for the territorial project; • research and processing of data on the case study, which students perform with the guidance of the teacher, preferably in the classroom, with the help of a personal computer; • direct experience of the case study through inspections, investigations and meetings with qualified witnesses and experts carried out with the teacher or independently; • elaboration and evaluation of scenarios. The final product is a technically relevant redevelopment proposal expressed in forms and in a language that is understandable to a wide audience. SYLLABUS/CONTENT In the theoretical part, the module aims to reconstruct the fundamental lines of urban planning in Genoa in the last 100 years, framed in the Italian historical-economic, legislative and urban planning context. Each lecture will therefore deal with the various phases of Italian urban planning (through important exponents and significant plans/projects), and then highlight how these have been reflected in the urban history of Genoa, analyzing tools, procedures, projects and debates that have marked its fundamental stages. The exercise, carried out in common with the other disciplines, considers as a case study a portion of the territory or urban fabric of which the emerging characteristics and problems are analyzed, new development scenarios are considered and evaluated, up to the formulation of a redevelopment proposal. On the basis of what has been learned in the lectures and under the guidance of the teachers, students will practice on real cases and situations, following a methodology of analysis and evaluation aimed at the project. Please refer to the general sheet. ASSESSMENT METHODS During the oral exam, the student's ability to represent, describe and argue with appropriate techniques and in a clear and convincing way a project proposal of territorial value will be evaluated through the presentation. Through the proposal, the student will have to demonstrate: • to be able to set up and conduct the analysis of a territory using the techniques and tools provided during the course; • to be able to describe the territory studied, indicating its distinctive characteristics and evaluating its problems and values; • to know how to develop and select intervention hypotheses in line with what has been detected. Questions will allow to deepen the degree of achievement of the training objectives. Since the course includes exercises and mid-term tests of the level of learning and development of the case study, commitment and progress are evaluated over the course of the semester, taking into account the progress achieved and the contribution of the individual to the group work.
