AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical foundations and the most suitable methodological tools for carrying out dental clinical practice. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to train professionals capable of managing dental clinical activity both in terms of the ability to design and implement an effective treatment plan and in terms of the organizational and management aspects of clinical practice. Students will be introduced to the team and teamwork, they will be introduced to the principles of bibliographic research, verification of sources and critical thinking as an approach to scientific methodology, transmitting to the student the rationale and basic tools for the management of the dental patient. Given multidisciplinary pathologies, the student will be guided to design a rational treatment plan starting from the guidelines and validated protocols. The student will be led to analyze, and possibly correct, his own professional behavior. The course includes the "Introduction to the Profession" module (2 CFU) managed in collaboration with CAO (Commission of the Register of Dentists) and ANDI (National Association of Italian Dentists) relating to the procedures that must be faced during the introduction to the profession by the graduate in Dentistry. In particular, thanks to participation in the planned teaching activities, at the end of the course students will know how to: - Describe the principles of bibliographic research and evidence based dentistry (EBD) - Describe the bureaucratic procedures necessary for starting a dental practice, including the necessary requirements in terms of prevention and safety - Describe the main pathologies of the oral cavity and the available rehabilitation strategies - Apply the knowledge acquired in patient care and in developing an effective treatment plan - Design an effective treatment plan for the patient's dental rehabilitation - Conduct an effective treatment plan for the patient's dental rehabilitation - Manage their social interactions with a collaborative attitude and constructive communication in different environments - Demonstrate awareness of one's preferred learning strategies, organization and evaluation of personal learning according to what is understood and learned TEACHING METHODS Balance between lectures, group work, case analysis, clinical training on patients. The course includes teaching based on cases and problems carried out in groups. Working groups will be organized which, in parallel with the lessons, will have to analyze and discuss one or more case studies and analyze them by applying the methods described in lessons. At the end of the course, each group will present their case analysis project and treatment proposals. The training activities will be set up according to active, interactive and constructive teaching strategies. These strategies will allow for practical experiences, requiring the creation of project works and encouraging exchange and comparison between peers, leading students to use their transversal skills and, in this way, allowing them to improve them. Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the School/Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning outcomes. The oral exam will mainly focus on the topics covered during the lessons and will have the aim of evaluating not only whether the student has reached an adequate level of knowledge, but also whether he has acquired the ability to critically analyze clinical problems that could be presented during the course of the exam. The evaluation of the activity carried out during the clinical internship and during the teaching of cases and problems carried out in groups will also contribute to determining the final grade. The students must also demonstrate that they have acquired the ability to describe a dental treatment plan clearly and with correct terminology.
