OVERVIEW

Implant dentistry is the branch of Dentistry that deals with the replacement of compromised or missing teeth with dental implants.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquisition of the theoretical and practical knowledge in order to make a diagnosis in “implant” patients and in order to design and realize a correct surgery and implant supported prosthesis.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student must:

  • know in depth the anatomical surgical limits to plan a correct implant surgery
  • be able to diagnose and realize a proper treatment plan including fixed or removable implant-supported prostheses 
  • be able to clinically identify indications and contraindications to the rehabilitation with the various types of implant-supported prostheses
  • know in detail the various types of dental implants and implant prosthodontic components
  • know the implant “pathology” 
  • be able to apply the knowledge acquired in order to decide the type of dental implants and the type of restorative materials best suited to realize a fixed/mobile prosthesis in a specific clinical situation
  • be able to realize a proper implant-supported prostheses
  • have acquired a proper terminology in order to be able to identify the various types of implant supported prostheses and their components and in order to describe the procedures required to realize a fixed prosthesis with a suitable language

TEACHING METHODS

Clinical training carried out directly by the students under the supervision of clinical tutors in University and Hospital clinical divisions. 

The students, followed by tutors, will operate directly on patients with increasing degree of autonomy.

30% of the activity can be carried out on simulators.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the School/Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning outcomes.

  • Diagnosis and treatment plan in implant-supported rehabilitations
  • indications and contraindications to the rehabilitation with the various types of implant-supported prostheses
  • types of dental implants and implant prosthodontic components
  • implant “pathology”, periimplantitis
  • surgical and prosthodontic procedures to rehalize a proper fixed or removable implant-supported rehabilitation

Interview 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The student must demonstrate the attendance of at least 75% of the planned learning activities presenting the special register and the certificates signed by the clinical tutors attesting the clinical activities carried out.

The interview will evaluate the capacity to formulate a proper diagnosis and treatment plan using a suitable terminology.

The evaluation will also include punctuality, personal behaviour, communication skills, decency and professionalism in the relationship with the patient, with the clinical tutors and with the dental equips of the different clinical divisions.
