OVERVIEW

The general objective is the promotion and protection of human health through the identification and measurement of the causes and risk factors of disease (moment of knowledge) and their removal and primary, secondary and tertiary prevention (moment of interventions ). 

 

 

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

ENG: The general objective is the promotion and protection of human health through the identification and measurement of the causes and risk factors of disease and primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention. Specifically, the course aims to provide the student with basic skills in the field of: - the epidemiologic methods (descriptive, analytic and experimental), health surveillance systems and risk assessment; - preventive, rehabilitative and social medicine, with particular focuses on the general epidemiology and prevention of transmissible infectious diseases (active and passive immunoprophylaxis, disinfection, sterilization and environmental sanitisation), chronic-degenerative diseases and cancer; - hygiene applied to the environment, workplaces, food and nutrition; - health education and health promotion; - community medicine and public health; - planning and managing health systems

- the epidemiological methodology (descriptive, analytical, evaluative and experimental), health surveillance systems and risk assessment;

- preventive, rehabilitative and social medicine, with particular reference to the general epidemiology and prevention of transmissible infectious diseases (active and passive immunoprophylaxis, disinfection, sterilization and environmental sanitisation), chronic-degenerative and tumor diseases (correct lifestyles and screening);

- hygiene applied to the environment, workplaces, food and nutrition; - health education and health promotion;

- community medicine and public health;

- the planning, organization and management of health services (concepts of disease and risk management).

TEACHING METHODS

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department ( Prof. Luca Raiteri, Luca.Raiteri@unige.it ) before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific learning methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.
