OVERVIEW

Biochemistry studies from a structural and functional point of view the structure and role of biological molecules, their interactions, metabolic transformations, as well as the mechanisms that coordinate their activities. In this context, enzymes, their mechanism of action, and energy conservation and utilization will be studied. How genetic information is stored, transmitted, and expressed will also be studied. The educational objective of the course Applied Biochemistry is to present and critically discuss the most advanced techniques used in biochemical research, a research-based discipline, and their main applications. The course will enable the student to understand the general criteria of biochemical experimentation, biological materials, principles, and equipment used for preparative and analytical purposes in the biochemical laboratory. The course content is constantly updated to render students familiar with the analytical approach to the various problems encountered in modern research laboratories, both basic and applied.

AIMS AND CONTENT

PREREQUISITES

Previous acquired knowledge necesary for the comprehension of the topics of Biochemistry and Aplied Biochemistry are: INorganic Chemistry and Applied Chemistry.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The examination consists of an oral interview and covers the program's topics. The final assessment will consider the evaluation will also include applied biochemistry, in the form of an oral interview covering the program's topics and the test(s), which will be marked in thirtieths. T

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The lecturer will articulate specific questions on the topics of General Biochemistry aimed at testing preparation on the subject, the ability to discuss knowledge using appropriate scientific vocabulary, link different but interconnected topics, and expository effectiveness. The final grade considers all these contributions as indicators of the achievement of the learning outcomes . The lecturer's examination will also consist of specific questions aimed at testing adequate knowledge and understanding  of the biochemical techniques described during the Moduel "Applied Biochemistry" of the Course, and, in particular, the ability of the student to discuss their detailed application with effectiveness and using appropriate scientific vocabulary.
