OVERVIEW

Marine Biodiversity and Adaptations is made up of two strongly interconnected modules, which provide the knowledge needed to understand and evaluate the biocoenotic dynamics of the different aquatic environments. In particular, the composition and distribution of biocoenoses and the adaptation of organisms to environmental and anthropic stressors will be analysed, with a broad, in-depth analysis of the role and diversity of fish fauna.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The subject aims to delve deeper into the biodiversity of marine invertebrates and fish fauna in relation to environmental, biotic and anthropic forcings.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The subject aims to develop the basic knowledge, critical skills and transversal skills necessary to deal with field research as well as analyse and evaluate complex issues concerning biodiversity in the marine environment. Specifically, the student will be able to undertake studies, evaluations and monitoring regarding benthos, its dynamics and its responses to ecological and anthropic stressors, and undertake studies, evaluations and monitoring regarding fish fauna, its complexity and its vulnerability.

PREREQUISITES

To effectively address the subject contents, basic knowledge of zoology, ecology, anatomy and physiology is necessary.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of frontal lessons. Attendance at lessons is strongly recommended. The classroom lessons are delivered through multimedia presentations.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Please refer to the individual modules to view the detailed program of the subject.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

All the slides used during the lessons and other teaching material will be available on AulaWeb.
