OVERVIEW

The aim of the class is to introduce the student to experimental naval architecture considering both standard (towing tank, self-propulsion tests, open water tests) and advanced techniques.

The student will learn theory about measures and main data analysis methods. In addition, he will apply the acquired knowledge to real problems concerning the design and execution of experimental activities.

In particular, the student will have the chance to carry out experimental activities in the hydrodynamic facilities of the department (towing tank and cavitation tunnel).

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The unit aims to provide the fundamentals of experimental test development in naval architecture with special reference to test preparation and development, together with critical analysis of results.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student will acquire the following skills:

- Design experimental campaigns aimed to the characterization of hydrodynamic performances of hulls and propulsors

- Select the best equipment and methods according with the aims of the tests

- Understand technical reports about model tests

- Analyse and understanf results of experimental tests
