SEMESTER 1° Semester

OVERVIEW

The course is modulus 1 of four moduli of mathematics that jointly yield to the student the needed concepts and methods for the developments within the whole course of Ingegneria Informatica..

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides some basic concepts of mathematical analysis: numerical sequences and series, differential calculus in one variable, polynomial approximation of functions, numerical methods for nonlinear equations.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aims are the understanding of the concepts and the applicability through formulae to the solution of problems. In general it is eesential to distinguish clearly hypothesis snd thesis or given data and unknowns. It is required the skill on definitions and methods on numerical sequences and differential calculus in one variable. The exam consists of written and oral parts.

PREREQUISITES

No prerequisites are required.

TEACHING METHODS

The lectures are given at the blackboard through a constructive method (definitions, theorems, applications).

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The content consists of the following parts. An introductory part involves the main notation, the numerical sets and the induction method. Next numerical sequences and series are developed: increasing and decreasing sequences, limit of a sequence, main examples of sequences, the number e, convergent or divergent series, ratio test. The main part deals with the differential calculus: limit of a function, continuity, differentiability; Rolle, Lagrange and Cauchy theorems; Taylor's formula and application to maxima, minima, and inflection points. The last part treats numerical methods for the research of zeroes of functions.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Lecture notes relative to the course are provided by the teacher.
