AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The module aims to strengthen the students’ knowledge of the English language. The target level is B1 (Pre-Intermediate), in accordance with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Roughly half of the module will be devoted to a review of grammar and vocabulary. The other half will be devoted more specifically to English as used in the media, using a specific textbook, and to a critical evaluation of presentation skills, using the example of select TED talks.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning outcomes can be summarized as follows:

1) acquiring or reinforcing the students' language skills up to QCER B1 level

2) improving the students' communication skills through dedicated exercises (writing a survey, writing a review, reflections on the appropriate communication pitch, etc.)

3) improving the students' presentation skills through a discussion of examples (e.g. TED Talks) and a reflection on the principal subconscious mechanisms involved in the transmission of information
