AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The module aims to develop the ability to organize external and internal spaces, related to the general shapes of the boats, the shape and design of the fittings and furnishings.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching consists of a theoretical part and a laboratory part with weekly checks and revisions.

The educational objective of the course is to provide the student with the basic tools to tackle the design of a pleasure boat between 12 and 24 meters in length, with a motor, and to develop the design of the sub-assemblies that compose it (planks, dashboards, deck plans, interior layout and decor)

The first part of the teaching is based on market research, comparison and choice of reference boats. In the second part, the design of the layout, general plans and sections begins; in this part, three-dimensional modeling can be used as an aid to composition. In the third part, the general plans are completed, the interior layout is explored in depth and the hull, deck and superstructure are modeled in 3D.

The expected results are an advanced understanding of the fundamentals of nautical design and the development of the ability to set up the project of a vessel, placing it in the market portion of its competence, and to develop general plans that allow for the exhaustive description of the same.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Written, Oral.

The written part consists of the project documents, the market research, the sketches, collected in a book.

The oral part consists of a dissertation of the project.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The evaluation of the design part consists in the overall examination of the documents, in the coherence between the initial requirements and the proposed project, in the graphics of the construction plan drawings and general plans.

The oral discussion of the project allows to evaluate the candidate's expressive and motivational skills.

The student's evaluation is carried out during the oral exam and is based on the ability to describe autonomously, with coherence and propriety of terms the topics and demonstrations presented in class

The attribution of the grade will take into account: Knowledge of the topics covered,  Ability to present, Ability to solve problems of the project. The grade of the Laboratory will take into account the other two modules

FURTHER INFORMATION

Students with disabilities or DSA can request compensatory/dispensatory measures for the exam.
