OVERVIEW

The course ‘Legal English’ introduces the language of English law, present in legal systems in many countries of the world. The syllabus focuses on key legal issues impacting the business entity and the public administration as well as the possible relations between both.

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Improve English language skills in the legal and business sectors as well as for academic purposes. Consolidate B2 English language level.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to increase students’ communicative competence and knowledge in these specific topic areas: the different meanings of ‘civil law’, contract and contractual remedies, corporate law, the joint-stock, limited liability company, public procurement.

Specifically:

-improve receptive and productive skills in English as a second language at and beyond B2 level;

-provide students with the tools necessary to understand propositional and topic structure and organization in law-related texts;

-prepare students also for internationally recognized English language certifications at B2 CEFR;

-become confident with using English in a range of settings.

PREREQUISITES

A knowledge and understanding of the English language at a B1.2 Level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)..

TEACHING METHODS

Face-to-face lessons based on sector-specific syllabus content with a variety of group and individual task responses

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Teaching resources covering the main topic areas of the course adapted for B1.2 level CEFR on contract, corporate law and public procurement.
