AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquisition of the practical knowledge necessary to design and implement the rehabilitation of patients who require the restoration of the integrity of the dental arcades with fixed or mobile prostheses. The internship aims to acquire the practical knowledge necessary for the rehabilitation of a partially or totally edentulous patient with the various types of prostheses. The internship, carried out on study models, teeth extracted from simulators and dummies, aims to acquire, through practical-application activities, carried out in the laboratory and classrooms mannequins, the techniques and procedures essential to clinical activity. The aim of the internship is to acquire, through practical experience and direct tutored participation, the knowledge that will allow him to diagnose, develop a treatment plan and achieve a proper prosthetic rehabilitation.

TEACHING METHODS

Practical internship carried out on study models, or teeth extracted in order to acquire, through practical-application activities, carried out in the laboratory and classrooms mannequins, the techniques and preparatory procedures essential to clinical activity. Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the School/Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning outcomes.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The details on how to prepare for the exam and the degree of deepening of each topic will be given during the course of teaching activities.

The student must demonstrate that he has acquired the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to design and carry out the rehabilitation of patients who require the restoration of the integrity of the dental arches with both mobile and fixed prostheses

The oral exam will be based on the ability to properly manage the development and implementation of fixed and mobile prostheses , with the aim of evaluating not only whether the student has reached an adequate level of knowledge and skills, but even if it has acquired the ability to critically analyze clinical-dental problems that could be presented during the examination.  The student must also demonstrate that he has acquired the ability to describe a prosthetic care plan clearly and with correct terminology. The assessment of the activity carried out during the internship will also contribute to the determination of the final grade.
