CODE 111643 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 8 cfu anno 3 CHIMICA E TECNOLOGIA FARMACEUTICHE 11674 (LM-13.) - GENOVA TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA MODULES Questo insegnamento è composto da: MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (MODULE) PHARMACOLOGY AND MOLECULAR TOXICOLOGY (MODULE) OVERVIEW The Integrated Course of Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology and Molecular Biology provides an introduction to the molecular principles regulating the action of drugs and toxic agents, and to the fundamentals of biology at the molecular level. The course explores the interactions between biological systems and external molecules, outlining its crucial role in the educational path for understanding the mechanisms underlying health and disease AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Understanding the fundamental principles of pharmacology and molecular toxicology, including the mechanisms of action of drugs and toxic substances at the molecular and cellular levels. Comprehending the principles of molecular biology as applied to pharmacology and toxicology, including gene regulation mechanisms, gene expression, and molecular biology techniques. Analyzing the mechanisms of interaction between drugs and molecular targets, such as receptors, enzymes, and ion channels, and the clinical implications of these interactions. Identifying and describing the main toxic substances, their mechanisms of action, and their biological effects, with particular attention to pharmacological and toxicological consequences. Applying molecular biology knowledge to understanding and research in the field of pharmacology and toxicology, including the use of molecular biology techniques for target and biomarker analysis. Developing critical analysis and scientific evaluation skills regarding evidence related to drugs and toxic substances, with a view to potential clinical or research applications. Providing an overview of prevention, diagnosis, and therapy strategies for diseases related to drug use and exposure to toxic substances.
