OVERVIEW

The course, worth 12 ECTS credits, includes 36 hours of theoretical module and 160 hours of practical module.

The theoretical module is semester-long (first semester), while the practical module is annual.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

It provides students with the basic knowledge and skills for textual, discursive, pragmatic-cultural, and metalinguistic analysis, with particular reference to certain specialized languages. It includes intensive language practice sessions aimed at learning oral and written interlinguistic mediation (Spanish-Italian).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student will have acquired sociolinguistic knowledge to tackle issues of oral and written mediation, translation from Spanish to Italian, and will have the skills to structure a written text with particular attention to style and the appropriate register, with a specific focus on argumentative texts.

Level B2 of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for languages)

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course consists of two parts: a theoretical module (semester-based – first semester) and language practice sessions (annual), for a total of 12 ECTS.

Theoretical Module:
In the theoretical module, the relationship between sociolinguistics and translation will be explored in depth. The course will be conducted in Spanish.

Language Practice Sessions

The practice sessions include several modules:

  • An oral skills and introduction to interpretation module

  • An oral mediation module

  • A written mediation module

  • A Spanish-to-Italian translation module

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The linguistics module is assessed through an oral exam. Both content and language skills will be evaluated.  

The exam for attenders and non-attenders is the same.

The practical module is assessed through a written paper and an oral exam.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Theoretical module 

The exam will consist of both an oral and written test, in Spanish, covering the course content and the supplementary bibliography. The candidate will be asked at least one question for each of the topics covered. The evaluation of the exam will take into account not only the knowledge of the program (topics discussed in class, further readings based on the recommended bibliography, and materials available on the Aulaweb platform) and the ability to critically analyze and elaborate on the concepts, but also the ability to present a complex argument and the accuracy in using the specific language of the discipline.

The practical part is assessed through a written exam paper (traducción es>it; mediación escrita) and an oral exam (mediación oral)

 

FURTHER INFORMATION

Considering the structure of the course, which is divided into modules, Erasmus students must contact professor Sanfelici before starting to attend the classes.

Students with certified DSA (Specific Learning Disabilities), disabilities, or other special educational needs are advised to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods that, while respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning styles and provide suitable compensatory tools.
