OVERVIEW

The course is organized in two separated modules, one (Industrial Fluid-dynamics) aimed at providing the students with knowledges about the industrial fluid-dynamics phenimena with special regards to both the theoretical topics and the numerical investigation approach, the other one (Combustion Process and Emissions) dealing with one of the (still) more relevant physical phenomena in the modern energy connversion processes panorama, the combustion.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching unit is made of two modules that provide students with skills on fundamental topics for the study of components and systems that are part of the energy sector. These topics are combustion and numerical thermofluid dynamic simulation. Combustion is certainly the central process in the transformation of energy in thermal plants. Technological developments related to the reduction of emissions, the increase in efficiency and the development of innovative technologies are necessarily related to the study of the combustion process. Numerical thermofluid dynamic simulation with CFD techniques is the modern reference tool for the study and technological development of all components and systems that concern energy issues. Both teaching modules address both from a theoretical point of view and from an applicative point of view, offering students the opportunity to carry out laboratory activities or apply commercial CFD codes.
