CODE 86644 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 1 ENERGY ENGINEERING 11917 (LM-30 R) - SAVONA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/17 LANGUAGE English TEACHING LOCATION SAVONA SEMESTER 2° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: POWER AND INDUSTRIAL PLANTS FOR ENERGY AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the teaching unit is to provide students with a detailed knowledge of the operating principles and system lay-out of power plants for energy conversion, such as gas turbine systems, steam power plant and combined cycles. Moreover, the course will give the basis for the plant performances calculation, system behaviour understanding and plant management knowledge, with particular regard to the current national and international energy scenario. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to provide students with the proper skills to cope with plants managing energy vector materials, in solid, liquid and gaseous form. Particular attention is provided to the dangerous materials such as flammable fluids and gases. The students will be provided with the sensibility to the safety issues regarding this type of plants. TEACHING METHODS Lessons held in classroom by the teachers according to the program of the course. The lessons are traditionally developed with the help of power points and handouts available on aulaweb on pdf format. Students can follow the main text on any computer support and take notes for the specific notions. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Solid fuels: transport systems for coal in pieces (belt conveyors) and in dust (pneumatic transport systems). Community law 97/23/CE-PED and its engineering implications. Evolving systems group 1 fluids: liquid fuels (specifications, sizing tanks, distributing lines, regulations and safety features, utilities); gaseous fuels (technical characteristics manufactured gases and natural. Distribution and storage equipment sizing for LPG, pressure reduction groups for natural gas (1st and 2nd stage), dimensioning, adjustment, safety lines, utilities). Evolving systems group 2 fluids: industrial service cooling water (heat-exchangers in mixture air-water) and pressure (autoclave tanks). Steam: sizing service distribution networks superheated and saturated steam. Condensation manifold networks, expansion joints, thermal stress. Risk analysis for types of industrial installations. Development of technical regulations of the contracts. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Handouts available on aulaweb, in pdf or in paper format.
