AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the learner will have to:

  • know and understand the most important internal pathologies in the field of Emergencies / Urgencies
  • describe and analyze an updated therapeutic approach according to the most accredited guidelines
  • understand and apply the knowledge acquired both in the theoretical and in the simulation part of the course
  • develop critical skills in the organization and decision in the context of Emergencies / Urgencies

TEACHING METHODS

Plenary Lectures

Laboratories with macrosimulation on training manikin and simulated clinical cases with discussion of the most common diagnostic / therapeutic protocols

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The main topics in the internal field are:

• Risk management in the emergency room

• Syncope

• Patient with chest pain

• Hypertensive crisis

• Acute renal failure

• Acute liver failure

• Medical approach to respiratory insufficiency

• Coagulation problems and pulmonary embolism

• Medical approach to digestive bleeding

• Metabolic comas

• Electrolyte disturbances

• Sepsis

• More common intoxications

• Emergencies from physical agents

• Transfusion problems

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

An inclusive written exam is held for the entire course. The test consists on 31 multiple choice questions on topics of basic knowledge, diagnosis and therapy in the field of Emergencies. The questions are prepared in order to evaluate the acquired knowledge and the logic skills of the student.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Accuracy of the answers; 1 point assigned for each correct answer.
