AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching of Respiratory System Diseases focuses on the pathophysiological and clinical aspects of respiratory system diseases and their connections to physical and especially sports activities. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Acquire the pathophysiological knowledge needed to discuss prescribing physical exercise in Respiratory Diseases with the doctor. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lessons, exercises. SYLLABUS/CONTENT ANATOMY OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM LUNG ANATOMY This section covers the relationships between the chest wall, lung, parietal and visceral pleura; pleural space and fluid; structure of the lung parenchyma; airways; gas exchange barrier; sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation. PHYSIOLOGY OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM Breathing: It covers the breathing centers and the respiratory muscles. Phonation. Defense mechanisms include cough, mucociliary clearance, and the immune system of the respiratory system. Intrapulmonary gas exchange and gases in the blood. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES Hypoxemia and respiratory failure are discussed in this section along with their causes. Respiratory pathologies include chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, and pneumothorax. DIAGNOSTIC ELEMENTS Topics covered in this section include spirometry (P.F.R.), blood gas analysis, rating scales (Borg and Vas), walking test, and radiological diagnostics. Respiratory pathophysiology of obstructive and restrictive respiratory diseases, as well as Asthma and COPD. Role of Rehabilitation in Respiratory Diseases.
