CODE 57188 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 9 cfu anno 1 INFORMAZIONE ED EDITORIA 11902 (LM-19 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR M-STO/04 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester OVERVIEW The History of journalism analyzes the socio-cultural and politiical-economic contexts that determined tha birth and development of the different kinds of journalism and of the journalistic profession from the Modern Age to the consolidation of a complex information systems on the present time. In addition to Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Russia ancd the United States will also be consedered. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of the course, students will have acquired knowledge of the historical development of the main imedia and will thus be able to orient themselves and critically evaluate the current media system. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course the student will acquire adequate knowledge in relation to the historical development of journalism and other media (radio, television) in the main European states and in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries, the recent emergence of digital media and their impact on traditional journalism, the evolution of the laws that regulate the principles of publishing. He will thus be able to evaluate critically and in comparative terms the differences between different journalistic models, to present the topics covered by the program corrently and using an appropriate language, to independently carry out further investigations. PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge of the main historical processes of the Contemporary age. A good knowledge of Italian. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of lectures for a total of 54 hours (9 Cfu), also with the use of powerpoint. It will be held in face-to-face teaching mode. Students with valid certifications of Specific Learning Disability (DSA) are invited to contact the teacher and the Department's Disabily Representative to agree on teaching methods that, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take into account their individual need. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The development of journalism from 1400s to the present time, in general terms, also with reference to technological innovations, and in relation to France, The United Kingdom, Germany, Italia, Russia and the United Stetes.The diffusion of radio and television in the above states. Foreign students can held it in English. Only if requested on the base of justified needs it can be kept in nwritten form. . ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam consists of two questions relating to the entire program. The exam is passed if both answers are sufficient. In the event that one of the two answers is insufficient, a third question will be asked. An additional question will be asked about the chosen reading indicated in the program.
