OVERVIEW

The course introduces students to the study of structures in engineering and their behavior under applied forces. One objective is to highlight the role that Structural Engineering has in the different fields of Engineering. The main objective of Module 1 is to provide methods for understanding the behavior of structures composed of rods, beams, frames, trusses through quantitative and qualitative descriptions. Module 2 introduces students to Solid Mechanics through the formulation of appropriate mathematical models designed to simulate the real behavior of the material. Among these, the simplest and most widely used is known as the Cauchy continuum. The strong connection between the Modules is highlighted several times with simple examples.
