CODE 83700 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 9 cfu anno 3 SCIENZE DEL TURISMO: IMPRESA, CULTURA E TERRITORIO 9912 (L-15) - IMPERIA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MAT/09 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION IMPERIA SEMESTER 2° Semester OVERVIEW The course introduces students to critical analysis of decision-making problems in the tourism field and the use of methods of decision theory, operational research and revenue management. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide the students with some tools of decision theory, operational research and revenue management to support decision makers operating in the tourism sector and to plan and manage events. The proposed tools will be used to solve real cases, thanks to spreadsheet Excel AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at providing the main concepts and methods of decision theory, operational research for tourism management, and revenue management and to develop the ability to concentrate and reflect criticism of a task, manage the complexity, and develop autonomy in decisions. At the end of the course students will : know the typical terminology of decision theory, operational research and revenue management; have the ability to concentrate and critically reflect on a problem; have developed autonomy in decisions and will be able to manage complexity; be able to develop choice/optimization models to solve real problems related to the management of tourist services and pricing models; be able to use the spreadsheet and the solver of Excel PREREQUISITES matrices and linear functions TEACHING METHODS Traditional lectures in Italian are integrated with individual/group works and lessons involving the use of PCs (spreadsheet Excel). Some lessons will be dedicated to the presentation and discussion of case studies. During the course homeworks will be assigned via AulaWeb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Analysis of some problems of tourist management: assignment, scheduling, transportation problems; human resource management, forecasting, pricing and revenue management. Methods: decision theory, optimization models, graph theory, Gantt diagram, revenue management Spreadsheet Excel will be used for solving the analysed problems. The ability to apply knowledge (solving, communication and personal skills) will be assessed through the presentation / discussion of the exercises or projects.
