AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching introduces the construction elements and proportions of the main types of boats through graphic restitution according to the main conventions of use. It also proposes the optimization of the forms according to the type of use, the possible technologies, the costs of the product and its industrialization

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Overview:
The course takes place during the second semester.
Theoretical lessons will cover the following topics:

  • Characteristic geometries of boats: sheer line, camber, transoms, etc.;

  • The sailing boat: proportions among components, sails and deck fittings;

  • Analysis of sailing types (sloop, cutter, ketch,…);

  • The motorboat: typical hulls and their proportions;

  • Analysis of motorboat types (runabout, fast commuter, center console, etc.);

  • Motor propulsion systems (shaft lines, transmissions, etc.).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Attending students (non-working):

  • Attendance of at least 70% of the course is required to take the final exam;

  • Completion of the online teaching quality questionnaire;

  • Timely submission of course assignments and participation in the written-graphic test held in class.

FURTHER INFORMATION

NOTE 1:
Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering are required to submit exercises no. 1-2-3-4-5-6 and complete the written-graphic test (exercise 7) in class.
Exercises 7 and 8 are optional for Engineering students.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Product and Nautical Design must submit exercises no. 1-2-3-4-5-6-8, take the written-graphic test in class (exercise 7), and complete the ex-tempore graphic test (exercise 9).

NOTE 2:
Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering are required to submit exercises no. 1-2-3-4-5-6 and take the written-graphic test (exercise 7) during one of the official exam sessions.
Exercises 7 and 8 are optional for Engineering students.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Product and Nautical Design must submit exercises no. 1-2-3-4-5-6-8, take the written-graphic test (exercise 7), and the ex-tempore graphic test (exercise 9) during one of the official exam sessions.
