OVERVIEW

The activities include participation in courses and teaching activities aimed at acquiring transversal and/or professional skills (e.g., "Soft Skills" module and professionalizing courses).
Alternatively, credits for this teaching activity may be obtained through an internship in a company, carried out during the preparation of the master’s thesis in collaboration with the same company.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To bring students closer to the typical working environment within shipping industry  through seminars, conferences, and internships for the master’s thesis, in collaboration with companies of the maritime domain.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

As regards the "Soft Skills" module, the educational objective is to introduce transversal skills as prerequisites for personal and professional development.
At the end of the module, students will be able to:

communicate effectively within a working group;
work effectively in a team;
define strategies for entering the job market;
reflect critically on their own positioning with respect to the topics addressed in the module;
manage their social interactions with a collaborative attitude.

As regards the professionalizing seminars, at the end of the course students will be able to:

become at least partly familiar with the professional working environmento;
integrate the knowledge acquired during their university studies with more technical and practical knowledge;
draw inspiration from key figures and companies in the sector met during the seminars in order to build their own professional network.

"Soft Skills" module:
The topics covered in the module include:

The world of work: required skills and professional values
Transversal skills as a resource for employment
Interpersonal behavior: development of interactive skills and requirements useful for relationships
Communication skills
Teamwork: functioning dynamics, leadership styles, communication networks, decision-making processes
Job search tools: CV and job interview

“Professionalizing Seminars” module:
The content is defined by a program of activities managed by the coordinator and includes topics related to the offshore sector (wind farms and oil & gas), ship owners, shipbuilding and ship design, consultancy, and classification societies.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Slides and additional materials relating to the contents of the "Soft Skills" module will be provided to attending students during the course.
Speakers of the professionalizing seminars may provide students with the material used during their presentations.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

No final exam is required. The verification of the achievement of the requirements is carried out during the course, and for the acquisition of credits attendance is recorded by signing the appropriate register.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

On-the-job/seminar activities and participatory activities simultaneously allow students to acquire the skills required by the objectives and to assess their achievement.
