CODE 84439 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 12 cfu anno 1 INGEGNERIA NAVALE 11957 (LM-34) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/01 TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA MODULES Questo insegnamento è composto da: SHIP DYNAMICS SHIP STABILITY OVERVIEW il corso inquadra il comportamento statico e dinamico della nave aggiungendo ulteriori competenze rispetto alle conoscenze del percorso triennale con particolare attenzione a problemi complessi e nella prospettiva progettuale the course provides knowledge about the static and dynamic behaviour of the ship, adding further skills and competences in comparison to the BSc level with specific reference to complex problems and to the ship design process AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The Naval Architecture teaching unit focuses on the fundamental principles of ship statics and dynamics, aiming to create professionals capable of tackling advanced problems in ship design and operational analysis. Main objectives deal with buoyancy, ship stability and analysis of equilibrium conditions in calm and rough seas, as well as in intact and damaged conditions, ship dynamics and seakeeping, evaluation of ship behavior in waves, and analysis of operational performance in real navigation conditions. By the end of the teaching unit, students will acquire the knowledge and problem-solving skills needed to support ship design processes and assess operational performance in real-world sailing conditions. PREREQUISITES There are no specific requisites TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD PAOLA GUALENI Ricevimento: place: villa cambiaso - Prof. Gualeni and Prof. Piaggio office time: students are invited to send an email or to pop up in office in order to agree about the time In case students are not able to reach villa cambiaso, a remote meeting can be arranged on TEAMS GIULIANO VERNENGO Ricevimento: On request, by sending an email to the professor (giuliano.vernengo@unige.it). LESSONS LESSONS START https://corsi.unige.it/8738/p/studenti-orario Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION To be admitted to the oral exam, students must have completed the (mandatory) assignements proposed in class by the teacher of each individual module. Regarding the Ship Stability module, in relation to the assignements, the student must contact the teacher to schedule a discussion approximately one week before the scheduled oral exam. The oral exam will consist of two questions on the topics covered during the semester, to be answered by the student through reasoning supported by graphical representations. Regarding the Ship Dynamics module, during the oral exam, the results of the assignements will be discussed and analyzed, and some theoretical questions will be asked. ASSESSMENT METHODS Through open-ended questions on topics covered during the semester, the aim is to assess the ability to engage in a discussion on both the theoretical and practical aspects of Naval Architecture (Ship Stabiliy and Ship Dynamics). Particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to present the underlying assumptions of the discussion, identify the input data, define the objectives of the analysis, develop the reasoning, and ultimately reach the result.
