The teaching unit introduces the key concepts related to active and passive remote sensing, electromagnetic techniques for monitoring structures and protecting systems, and information extraction from remote sensing images in the framework of disaster risk prevention and assessment.
This teaching unit introduces the key concepts related to remote sensing and electromagnetic techniques for monitoring structures, protecting systems, and contributing to disaster risk prevention and assessment. With particular reference to civil, environmental, and disaster management applications, basic knowledge will be provided to the students about: radar concepts, remote sensing image acquisition, impedance and capacitance tomography, inverse scattering, microwave tomography, land cover mapping, bio/geophysical parameter retrieval, change detection, and data representation in a geographic information system.
There are no specific requirements, in addition to the normal bases of mathematics and physics that the students are supposed to have from their B.Sc. backgrounds in engineering.

REMOTE SENSING AND ELECTROMAGNETIC MONITORING
The modules 94664 - ELECTROMAGNETIC MONITORING TECHNIQUES and 94666 - REMOTE SENSING are associated with separate exams, whose descriptions can be found in the two corresponding sheets. After the student passes both exams with sufficient marks, his/her mark for 94663 - REMOTE SENSING AND ELECTROMAGNETIC MONITORING is calculated as the average of the marks obtained in the two modules.
See the sheets of 94664 - ELECTROMAGNETIC MONITORING TECHNIQUES e 94666 - REMOTE SENSING for the assessment methods associated with the exams for the two individual modules.
