The module aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of sustainable design applied to the built environment, addressing the topic not only as a general principle but as a set of concrete and conscious choices to be implemented throughout all phases of the design process. Sustainability will be addressed from general to specific, through environmental, typological, and detailed principles, with a focus on key regulations, directives, and environmental protocols for environmental assessment and the life cycle of materials and buildings. The knowledge acquired during lectures will be applied in the design lab, where students will develop a sustainable project in a BIM environment.
Through theoretical and lab-based lessons, the course aims to: • provide basic and advanced knowledge on the topics of sustainability in building design; • develop awareness of the environmental, economic, and social implications of design choices; • develop critical analysis and synthesis skills to integrate sustainability criteria into the various phases of the design process.
The course is structured to provide students with specific skills related to the development of a sustainable design project. At the end of the course, students will be able to: • develop a sustainable project based on the context, intended uses, and sustainable development goals; • develop a project within a BIM environment; • understand the main regulatory and voluntary frameworks on sustainability in construction; • select low environmental impact materials and construction solutions; • propose passive and active strategies for energy and climate optimization.
None.
• Lectures on course topics • Hands-on classroom sessions on sustainable design

The final exam includes an oral discussion:
• on the topics covered in the theoretical lessons;
• on the design work developed during the hands-on classroom sessions on sustainable design.
The final exam will assess the skills acquired by the students through an oral exam and evaluation of the design work developed during the course.
