TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Basic knowledge in structural mechanics modeling for buildings: frames, plates and shells. Fundamentals in structural dynamics: linear, elasto-plastic, isolated oscillators. Simple design criteria of passive control systems for building retrofitting. Experimental modal analysis through reduced scale-modeling in the laboratory.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student will be able to describe the fundamental principles and concepts of structural mechanics.
The student will be able to deal with basic problems of structural dynamics and structural plasticity.
The student will be able to solve structural beam problems, plane stress/strain problems in elasticity and hyperstatic structures using the displacement method.

TEACHING METHODS

The module consists in 50 hours of frontal lessons, lab activities and in-class activities. Slides will be provided before each lesson. The presentation of theoretical contents alternates with exercises and applicative examples. The aim is to encourage learning and discussion employing the appropriate technical terminology in structural mechanics.

Working students and students with DSA certification, disabilities or other special educational needs are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods which, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods

Working students and students with certified learning disabilities (DSA), disabilities, or other special educational needs are encouraged to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods which, while respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning needs.
