CODE 114734 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 11 cfu anno 2 BIOLOGIA ED ECOLOGIA MARINA 11770 (LM-6) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR BIO/09 LANGUAGE Italian (English on demand) TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA MODULES Questo insegnamento è composto da: BIOMARKERS OF ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS MECHANISMS AND ADAPTATIONS OVERVIEW The module aims to provide knowledge on the physiological mechanisms, from the cellular to the individual level, that underlie the adaptations of organisms to the marine environment. Examples will be considered relating to different groups, ranging from protozoa to mammals, and in various environments characterised by different abiotic variables (T, S, O2). The physiological regulation of functions by nervous and hormonal pathways, as well as their evolution in marine species, will be examined. Specific theoretical and practical knowledge will also be provided on the identification and quantification of stress responses in aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates (stress biomarkers), particularly in relation to exposure to pollutants, and their application in the field of biomonitoring the coastal marine environment and aquaculture. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The module aims to provide students with specific knowledge of the physiological mechanisms underlying the interactions between animals and marine and transitional environments and specific practical expertise on the identification and quantification of stress responses in marine invertebrates and vertebrates. PREREQUISITES There are no specific requirements.
