AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the teaching is to deepen, in the light of theoretical knowledge, the application of the scientific method through technical and practical activities.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the teaching module, students are expected to have acquired knowledge related to:

  • The methodologies for using various tools to analyze movement, its associated neural correlates, and the parameters being measured;

  • How to set up a system for acquiring data related to human movement and its neural correlates using the equipment employed during the technical-practical activities;

  • How to perform statistical analyses on collected data, interpret the results—also through appropriate graphical representations—and draw conclusions based on the acquired data.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of technical-practical lessons, totaling 30 hours, during which various instruments for the analysis of movement and its neural correlates will be used. Attendance is mandatory, as stated in the Academic Regulations.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge needed to select the most appropriate measurement tool based on the type of movement to be analyzed or its associated neural correlates, understanding each tool’s technical characteristics, advantages, and limitations. Specifically, the course will cover the operating principles of the following instruments:

  • Optoelectronic systems for kinematic movement analysis

  • Innovative tools for the quantitative assessment of movement kinematics

  • Inertial measurement systems

  • Electromyography

  • Tools for assessing strength and power

  • Instruments for studying brain activity

In addition, statistical analysis and data visualization software will be used during practical exercises.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The ATP does not provide a graded exam. Nevertheless, the knowledge gained in this course will be helpful for successfully completing the exam of the associated theoretical course.

A minimum of 70% attendance is required to take the theory module exam.

FURTHER INFORMATION

It is recommended, at the beginning of the course, to subscribe to Aulaweb so as to receive information and be kept up-to-date on teaching details.

In case of certification of specific learning disorders (DSA), disabilities or other special educational needs, it is necessary to contact the Referring Lecturer of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DIMES, Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it) who, after assessing the individual case, will send the teachers the necessary indications both for the development of the lessons and for the way of conducting the examination.
