AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The educational objective of this course is to provide the knowledge for the application of neuroscience principles to the sports context.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide knowledge on the main topics of neuroscience applied to sports in order to promote the use of sensorimotor and cognitive techniques aimed at enhancing motor learning.
At the conclusion of the teaching module, the following must be acquired:

  • The basic knowledge and understanding of brain and mental processes pertaining to the neuroscience of sport, with emphasis on the mechanisms of motor learning and brain plasticity;
  • The role of sensorimotor/cognitive stimulation techniques in enhancing the effects of motor learning through movement execution;
  • The ability to apply knowledge of sports neuroscience in the field of sports;
  • Autonomy of judgment on sports neuroscience issues.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching consists of theoretical lectures, totaling 16 hours. Attendance at lectures is compulsory, as per the Teaching Regulations.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The topics addressed during this course will be:

  • Motor learning: neurophysiological mechanisms and methodologies of investigation
  • Action observation and motor imagery as training techniques
  • The role of psyching-up techniques in sport

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Assessment of the ability to structure an intervention in sports by exploiting the methods of neuroscience in sports.
Assessment of the ability to structure an evaluation using the methods by exploiting the typical methods of neuroscience in sport.

FURTHER INFORMATION

It is recommended, at the beginning of the course, to subscribe to Aulaweb so as to receive information and be kept up-to-date on teaching details.

In case of certification of specific learning disorders (DSA), disabilities or other special educational needs, it is necessary to contact the Referring Lecturer of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DIMES, Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it) who, after assessing the individual case, will send the teachers the necessary indications both for the development of the lessons and for the way of conducting the examination.
