CODE 117761 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 1 INGEGNERIA MECCANICA PER L'AUTOMAZIONE 11976 (L-9 R) - LA SPEZIA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/22 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION LA SPEZIA SEMESTER 2° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: CHEMISTRY AND MATERIALS FOR MECHATRONICS AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES To provide knowledge of: metals and metal alloys, the fundamentals of industrial metallurgical processes, the chemical-physical and structural features of metal alloys, metallurgical heat treatments, and tests for characterizing the mechanical properties of materials. To introduce, for ideal solids: stress and strain states, elastic/viscoelastic and plastic behaviours and models. Another objective of the course is to introduce the main degradation processes of metallic materials and methods for corrosion protection. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Foundaments of electrochemistry: Eq. Di Nernst, galvanic cells, elettrolysersi, faraday law. Electric generators: Volta and Daniell batteries, concentration batteries, Lead acid batteries, Li-ion batteries, alcaline batteries, metal hydride batteries, fuel cells, exercises. Thermodinamic of metal extraction and processes: minerals, unit operations, metal reduction, Hellingam diagram, cast iron production and steeel refinement, steel types, aluminium and aluminium alloys, copper and copper alloys. Heterogeneous equilibria: Gibbs law, single component equilibrium (water), two components equilibrium, vapor pressure, Raoul law, main bynary equilibria diagrams. Mechanical properties of materials/metals and relation with the atomic structure Ferrous and non ferrous alloys. Fe_C equilibrium diagram. Main thermal treatments and TTT, CTT curves. Designation of steel. Corrosion and corrosion protection of metals: foundamentsof corrosion, corrosion morphologies and corrosion types, passivable metals. Corrosion prevention by organic coating, cathodic and anodic protection. Techniques for the study and testig for corrosion control. Techniques of inspection for the surface preparation and surface protection methods: qualyty insurance and inspection plan, daily-log, standards and reccomended practices.
